If you are an “anything banana” fan like myself, you will love these Milk Chocolate and Walnut Banana Bars! A super moist banana bar with a chocolaty, crunchy top drizzled with brown sugar frosting. It doesn’t get any better than that! 🙂
Happy Thursday, friends! Once again, I am ready for the weekend. I actually feel a little bit bad even stating that as I am still on winter layoff from my job at the RV dealership. However, a girl can still look forward to the weekends, right?
So enough chat about the weekend…let’s talk banana bars! I think I nailed it this time. These Milk Chocolate and Walnut Banana Bars are a spin on my Banana Snack Cake from last year. You still have that moist banana cake-like texture but with all the goodness of milk chocolate chips and walnuts sprinkled on top. And, as if that wasn’t enough yumminess, I added a drizzle of brown sugar frosting. Yep, frosting makes everything better. 🙂
My goal with this blog has always been to bring you quick, easy, family-friendly recipes that you can share with others and put your own “twist” on. These Milk Chocolate and Walnut Banana Bars are so versatile. Would you rather have semi-sweet chocolate chips on top? Do it! Not a fan of walnuts? Substitute with pecans. Heck, you could even swap the bananas with applesauce! Did I just “say” that? LOL
Okay, enough chit-chat. Let’s make these!
Here’s what you need to make Milk Chocolate and Walnut Banana Bars:
- Brown sugar
- Butter
- Eggs
- All-purpose flour
- Baking soda
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Milk – 2%, whole, or almond
- Bananas
- Vanilla
- Milk Chocolate chips – can replace with peanut butter chips or semi-sweet
- Walnuts – pecans are also a great nut for these bars
- Powdered sugar
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 10″ x 15″ baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, 1 cup butter, and eggs.
- In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture, alternating with 1/2 cup milk.
- Add 4 mashed, over-ripe bananas and 1 tsp. vanilla mixing until well combined.
- Pour the batter into your baking pan.
- Top with milk chocolate chips and walnuts.
- Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
- While the bars are baking, prepare the frosting.
- For frosting, in a small saucepan, combine 7 Tbsp. brown sugar, 2 Tbsp. milk, 3 Tbsp. butter, and 1/2 tsp. vanilla.
- Bring to a boil and continue boiling for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Add powdered sugar and mix until well combined.
- Using a small spoon, drizzle the frosting on top of the warm bars. The frosting will set up quickly.
See how easy that was? And…you can also freeze these bars. It’s great to have treats that can be pulled out of the freezer for surprise guests or even a potluck that you simply don’t have time to prepare for.
Before I go, I want to wish you a very blessed Easter weekend. I hope you are able to spend time with family and/or friends. And maybe even whip up a batch of these Milk Chocolate and Walnut Banana Bars. 🙂
Until next time…Cheers!
