A bit of crunch and a whole lot of cinnamon apple goodness. These Apple Tart Dessert Bars will not disappoint. Give me all the apple treats!
Yep, I’m an apple fan. Not raw but cooked. Is that weird? Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind grabbing an apple off the tree in our orchard and enjoying it as I walk around but if I have my choice…give me all the apples and cinnamon baked into a yummy treat! 🙂
If you’ve been here before, you know how much I love a versatile recipe and these Apple Tart Dessert Bars are no exception. You can easily swap out the apples and replace them with peaches, rhubarb, raspberries, blueberries, just to name a few. You may want to leave the cinnamon out depending on the fruit you are using but isn’t cinnamon good on anything? LOL
I do have a confession to make. Sometimes I use frozen apple pie filling in this recipe (I hate peeling apples!). You can find the recipe here. On a side note, the apple pie filling recipe was one of the first I posted so it’s a bit rough, LOL. You can also chop your apples into finer pieces. I was wanting an apple pie vibe so I used larger slices.
Not gonna lie, I struggled with the name of this yummy dessert. Is it a pie, a tart, bars, or something else? It starts with a pastry-style crust. Then, off to the oven for a little bake to set it up nicely for the filling. The apple filling ends up being almost a custard that sets just under the fruit but yet it forms a bit of a crunch around the edges. You all know by now that I am partial to a crunchy chewy treat. 🙂 This one definitely “checks all the boxes”.
Here’s what you need to make Apple Tart Dessert Bars:
- All-purpose flour
- Butter – I use salted but unsalted will work fine too.
- Sugar
- Eggs
- Baking powder
- Apples – feel free to substitute with your favorite fruit.
- Cinnamon
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- For the crust, combine 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of butter, and 5 Tbsp. sugar in a medium-size mixing bowl.
- Pat into a 12″ x 8″ baking pan and bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.
- While the crust is baking, mix the remaining ingredients for the filling.
- Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees.
- Pour the filling on top of the crust and bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. The crust should be a golden brown.
See how easy that was?! Add a scoop of vanilla or cinnamon ice cream and enjoy!
If you decide to make this recipe using a fruit other than apples, please send me a picture. I would love to see how you put your own unique spin on it.
Until next time…Cheers!
