Garlic. Butter. Fluffy. Bread. Are you visualizing this? These Garlic Butter Dinner Rolls are the bomb!
OMG! I could eat these Garlic Butter Dinner Rolls all day long! There’s just something comforting about a fluffy, buttery, garlicky dinner roll. Don’t you agree? 🙂
The last time I made Garlic Butter Dinner Rolls was to be enjoyed with Smothered Oven Burgers. Since then I have dipped them in chili, enjoyed them with a potato and ham casserole (that recipe is coming soon :)), and may have been caught eating one as I was cleaning my house, LOL.
When I was growing up, I really don’t remember eating a lot of bread. Sure, we would have dinner rolls with special meals (you know, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) but not every meal. I gotta tell ya, things have changed. My entire adult life, I have almost always had some sort of bread with my evening meal. Rolls, bread, toast are all my love language. 🙂 Pasta too but that’s a whole other blog post!
So, you may be thinking…”working with yeast is so intimidating”! I get it. I haven’t always been comfortable either but sometimes you just have to jump in with both feet. The key is the temperature of your water that you dissolve the yeast in (110-115 degrees). The best part? Even if the dough doesn’t rise, you can still bake your rolls. They will simply be more dense but still edible. Let’s do this!
Ingredients:
- active dry yeast
- milk
- butter
- sugar
- egg
- salt
- all-purpose flour
- garlic salt
Directions:
- In a large mixer bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water (110-115 degrees).
- Add the warm milk (110-115 degrees), 1/4 cup of butter, sugar, egg, salt, and 2 cups flour.
- Beat on medium speed for 4 minutes.
- Stir in enough remaining flour to form a firm dough.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic (approximately 6 minutes).
- Place in a large greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise until doubled.
- Punch down the dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and cut the dough in half. Continue to do this with each piece until you have 16 pieces.
- Using your hands, roll each piece of dough into a log shape approximately 8″ long.
- Shape each dough log by twisting into a knot (similar to tying a shoe or like a pretzel ) and place in a large baking pan.
- Cover and let rise until doubled.
- Melt 1/4 cup butter and add garlic salt. Generously apply this to all the rolls with a pastry brush.
- Bake in a 350-degree oven for approximately 25 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove to a cooling rack or enjoy them warm from the oven.
I can’t think of a better way to stay cozy this winter than with warm dinner rolls. One of my favorite comfort foods. Casseroles are at the top of the list as well. 🙂
Stay warm and safe my friends.
Until next time…Cheers!
