Merry Christmas Eve Day! This is actually a fairly calm day for me. We celebrated Christmas last weekend with our “kids” and granddaughter. Between that and cookie baskets that I gave to friends, we are pretty much out of goodies. So, last night I whipped up a batch of these Holiday Sugar Cookies as well as a few other quick treats. Speaking of quick, check out my Quick Brownies. You won’t be disappointed.
If you have followed me for a while now, you know I’m all about quick, easy, no-fuss treats. These Holiday Sugar Cookies were the perfect fit for that. Even better is that they are soft and chewy. The best cookie to have with a cup of hot chocolate. 🙂 Are you ready to mix up these beauties?
Basic Ingredients:
- Shortening
- sugar
- all-purpose flour
- salt
- baking soda
- eggs
- cream of tartar
- colored sugar sprinkles or cinnamon & sugar mixture
All the ingredients go in the mixing bowl and you mix on medium speed until a dough ball forms. Then, roll in 1″ balls, roll them in sugar sprinkles or cinnamon & sugar mixture, bake and eat. There is nothing more satisfying than a warm sugar cookie!
I have to tell you, these Holiday Sugar Cookies were fun to make. What’s also great is you can make these all year long. Just choose colored sugar sprinkles for the occasion.

Holiday Sugar Cookies
The easiest sugar cookie you will ever make!
Ingredients
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3 eggs
- 2 tsp. cream of tartar
- Colored sugar sprinkles or 3 Tbsp. sugar with 1 tsp. cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl except the sugar sprinkles or cinnamon & sugar mixture.
- Mix well until you have a smooth ball of dough.
- Roll in 1" balls then roll in colored sugar sprinkles or cinnamon and sugar mixture.
- Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
- Let set on cookie sheet briefly before removing to a cooling rack.
Notes
This is such a versatile sugar cookie recipe. You can easily use it all year long. Simply use colored sugar sprinkles for the occasion or you can never go wrong with cinnamon and sugar.
