OMG! I can’t quit eating these Sugar Cookie Hearts! All that buttery flavor and the frosting…YUMMY :).
This is definitely my “go-to” sugar cookie recipe. Don’t let the name of the recipe stop you from making these cookies any time of year. In fact, I use it for any occasion/holiday that I want to make a bit more special. All you have to do is use the cookie cutters you want for the occasion. How cute are these hearts for your favorite Valentine?
The butter in these Sugar Cookie Hearts with Buttercream Frosting is really the star of the show. However, you can opt for a lighter version by putting sugar sprinkles on top prior to baking rather than the frosting. But…why would you? LOL
One of the things I really love about this recipe is how forgiving the dough is. No matter how many times I have to roll it out to cut all the cookies, it doesn’t get dry. I typically roll in small batches and the dough stays soft and “workable”.
Notice the pretty pink color of the frosting? I was so excited to find neon gel food coloring this past weekend and fell in love with the pink! I found mine at Walmart but here’s a great option too. You can use red food coloring but this pink is the “bomb” :). On a related subject…is anyone else having a hard time finding cinnamon candies (red hots)? Living in the middle of nowhere leaves me with limited options (big sigh). By the way, the neon gel food coloring that I bought at Walmart comes in four neon colors, pink, orange, green, and purple. I can’t wait to use them for Easter too!
Until next time…Cheers!
