As I scroll through Pinterest for another recipe, I wonder, where have all the cookbooks gone? I have a massive collection yet seldom utilize these gems. Massive? Yes. So, hang on while I share what brought me to this craziness, LOL.
I received my first cookbook at the age of seven. Yep, that’s me in the picture below :). Circa 1968ish. YIKES! That was the beginning of my cooking obsession.
It began most innocently with cakes, cookies, and bars. Somehow that wasn’t enough to fuel my love of food so, as I got older, my cooking grew into “full-blown” meals. I’m talking ribs, potatoes, a side of vegetables and, of course, bread/dinner rolls!
As I perfected my craft, I soon realized my obsession with cookbooks. I savored every opportunity I had to secure another cookbook. 🙂 My favorite hunting grounds were auctions, second-hand shops, and church fundraisers. I couldn’t get enough! Just look at this beauty from a church in central Iowa.
I have to confess…
my cookbook collection has grown to 400+ over the years. Yet, it has become more of a time capsule. The era of technology has changed my world to one of ease. Recipes are typically found via Pinterest. My cookbooks sit alone on their shelves collecting dust. Even worse are the five boxes stowed away in a spare bedroom closet. I feel sick just thinking about their sad life now. Oh, how I remember the days of sitting for hours going through the pages of those books!
As I type this blog post, I realize that I haven’t bought a cookbook in years. Are they a thing of the past or just set aside in our lives? I think it’s time to grab another cup of coffee and share some time with my favorite books. I may even work on growing my collection. 🙂
Till next time…Cheers!

Great writing style. Made me think of my cookbooks that sit on the bottom shelf of the pantry. Google is so easy now when you want a specific recipe.

Thanks for your kind words. This post also reminded me of how much I love doing crossword puzzles. They too have been put aside over the years. I practically tore my house apart looking for them 🙂
